HOW WE CAN HELP

Bridge Rehabilitation

New bridges are constructed with the life expectancy of 75 years but normal wear and tear cuts that lifespan by about 30 years. In particular, decks deteriorate at a faster rate than other parts of the bridge due to direct impact from traffic, weather, and application of chemicals (e.g., de-icing chemicals).

Why Bridge Rehabilitation Engineers are using Advanced Concrete Technology

According to ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), “The U.S. has 614,387 bridges, almost four in 10 of which are 50 years or older. 56,007, or 9.1% of the nation’s bridges were structurally deficient in 2016, and on average there were 188 million trips across a structurally deficient bridge each day.

Structurally Deficient Bridges 101

A significant number of U.S. bridges are rated “structurally deficient” according to the ARTBA. Specifically, about 30% of America’s bridges are in need of identifiable repair and the average age of each of these bridges is 67 years. Learn more about our infrastructure needs and structurally deficient bridges below with our infographic.

Structurally Deficient Bridges

The United States infrastructure and our “crumbling” roads and bridges, in particular, have been in the national consciousness for several years now.

Structurally Deficient Bridges

The United States infrastructure and our “crumbling” roads and bridges, in particular, have been in the national consciousness for several years now. In the wake of deadly bridge collapses in Italy and Miami and evidenced by the numerous bridge failures of the past, many experts are concerned that the number of structurally deficient bridges in the county has reached a critical point.
